Some movies are so weird that you may be wondering if it was worth watching them in the first place. They leave you feeling confused, uncomfortable, and perhaps a little unnerved. Check out these 10 movies that had us wondering what the heck we had just watched.
1. The Skin I Live In (2011)
There are so many twists and turns in this movie that most people had no idea what was going on when they watched it. A plastic surgeon develops a type of skin that is resistant to damage, but that’s only one aspect of the story. There’s accidental incest, violence, and a whole lot of weird skin experiments to go with it.
2. Lost Highway (1997)
Another winding movie with odd turns is Lost Highway. There are a lot of red herrings about who killed who and whoever is the one pulling all the strings. The ending is also confusing with its inclusion of an odd pair of headlights at the end of the highway. What does it all even mean?
3. Mulholland Drive (2001)
The ending of Mulholland Drive is another instance of people wondering what the heck they watched. There are so many changing identities and intentions and who is who that it’s difficult to know what actually happened. There’s also this random blue-haired woman at the end who whispers, “Silencio.” There are a lot of “WTF” moments in this movie.
4. Annihilation (2018)
As the movie gets deeper and deeper into the lore of the odd entity the team is pursuing, things just keep getting weirder. The end scene is one of the biggest moments that have people wondering what is going on and what did they just watch. The aliens are doppelgangers, and you don’t know if those at the end are the aliens or the real people and if the aliens have already been spreading outside of the film’s events.
5. Old Boy (2003)
After you discover the big twist at the end of Old Boy, you’ll definitely be wondering what the heck you watched. Seeing the man torture himself, even cutting off his own tongue, will leave you bewildered and uncomfortable.
6. Swiss Army Man (2016)
You have to have a certain type of humor to watch Swiss Army Man. It involves a dead body that has a little bit of life in it that a man, stranded on an island, discovers and uses to survive. The body farts, produces drinking water, and is even capable of some speech.
It’s an odd movie that will have you scratching your head when it’s over.
7. The Room (2003)
There’s a reason there are so many jokes about The Room. The movie does not make sense. There are so many plot holes and forgotten details that you’ll just be puzzled by the time the credits roll.
8. Teeth (2007)
A woman has a unique ability with her vagina. It can grow teeth. The absolute absurdity of the plot will have you wondering what you just watched.
9. Donnie Darko (2001)
Donnie Darko is a dreamy, surreal, film that has you constantly questioning the main character’s sanity. Is he really seeing this figure or is it a figment of his imagination? It all builds up to a climax that keeps you guessing and wondering what it is you just watched.
10. Saw (2004)
When people first watched Saw, they were ready to watch a thriller or maybe a slasher. They were not ready for the sort of body horror or twist that the movie produced. Things quickly went off the rails and left people wondering what they were actually watching.
