Nothing beats spending Thanksgiving weekend curled up on a sofa, enjoying more leftover pumpkin pie than you’d care to admit, and watching a good (or so bad it’s good) seasonal movie. Whether they’re comedy classics or terrifying slashers, the movies on this list have one thing in common – They’re all set around the joys of Turkey Day.

Addams Family Values (1993)

In this charmingly wicked sequel to the 1991 black comedy, the two Addams children get sent to an overly cheery camp. Wednesday Addams, as played by Christina Ricci, ruins Thanksgiving and pumpkin pie for all the other attending children. The film is worth watching for that hilarious sequence alone.

Thanksgiving (2023)

If you’ve seen Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse in 2007, you might remember a trailer for a nonexistent movie called Thanksgiving. After 16 years, Eli Roth turned that small trailer into a deranged slasher cinemagoers can’t get enough of.

Friendsgiving (2020)

While 2020’s Friendsgiving doesn’t quite have the markings of a timeless classic, the film’s strong cast and their endearing performances make it worth a stream. You might just recognize yourself or someone you know in this dysfunctional group of friends sitting down for a less-than-quiet celebration.

Mistress America (2015)

This drama follows two step-sisters, played by Greta Gerwig and Lola Kirke, and their road to creating a life in the Big Apple. By the end, you’ll understand why Mistress America is a witty and charming Thanksgiving gem.

Holidate (2020)

While Holidate is a straight-to-Netflix predictable comedy romance, it’s still worth streaming for its feel-good story and fun premise. The movie follows two people who pretend to be dating each other during the holidays to avoid prying questions from their families. Of course, it doesn’t take long before pesky feelings develop between the two.

Black Friday (2021)

We’ve all seen the viral videos, and we know Black Friday can be tough, to say the least, for retail workers. This movie takes that concept and adds a slew of inappropriate jokes and aliens, of course.

One True Thing (1998)

This touching tearjerker based on Anna Quindlen’s namesake novel follows a career woman as she reconnects with her mother, who’s been diagnosed with cancer. The Oscar-nominated movie stars Meryl Streep and Renée Zellweger.

Hollidaysburg (2014)

This 2014 drama is one of two films funded and produced by a reality TV competition. Rachel Keller stars as a young woman who just got back home for Thanksgiving and has to deal with several interpersonal conflicts within her friend’s group.

Scent of a Woman (1992)

For his part in Scent of a Woman, Al Pacino earned an Oscar. This compelling drama is set over Thanksgiving weekend when a broke college student takes on a job as a caretaker for a blind veteran.

Home For The Holidays (1995)

This 1995 classic, directed by Jodie Foster, has everything you would expect from a Thanksgiving movie. There’s drama, a dysfunctional family, and a turkey big enough to feed the entire neighborhood.
