Movies have names, but not everyone uses that name to refer to the movie. Audiences might even forget what the name of the movie was originally called.
Do you remember the actual title of these movies?
Child’s Play (1988)
When Child’s Play came out in 1988, everyone started calling it Chucky after the villain in the movie. Even today, most people don’t say they’re going to see a Child’s Play movie. They’re going to see a Chucky movie.
First Blood (1982)
When First Blood came out, the creators didn’t realize they had the beginning of a high-octane franchise on their hands. The movie became synonymous with the name Rambo. It was no longer First Blood. The movie was simply known as Rambo.
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Another great franchise in the making began with Raiders of the Lost Ark. At this point; it wasn’t called Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark. Yet, most people end up calling it that or simply Indiana Jones.

Friday the 13th (1980)
Asking to see Friday the 13th is a bit of a mouthful. Most people ended up simply calling it “Jason.” There are tons of movies in the Friday the 13th series, but most people simply refer to them as the Jason movies.
Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983)
When you’re going to see a Star Wars movie, in most cases, you’re not going to give the full title. You’re likely going to either say “Star Wars” or even just give the episode number. Some people might also say the distinguishing part of the title, like “Return of the Jedi.” However, it’s rare for anyone to refer to a Star Wars movie with its full title all the time.
The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)
Following the success of Jurassic Park (1993), a sequel came out. Except they didn’t call it Jurassic Park 2. They called it The Lost World: Jurassic Park. As you might expect, everyone just calls it Jurassic Park 2.
The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Sometimes a side character ends up becoming the titular focus of the movie. Such is the case with The Silence of the Lambs. It simply became known as the Hannibal movie or Hannibal. This makes it a bit more confusing, though, considering there is actually a movie called Hannibal (2001).
What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (1993)
A classic movie that helped catapult Leonardo DiCaprio’s career is What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. With a mouthful like that, most people call it just Gilbert Grape.
