4. 1969 Dodge Charger

The Charger’s flying buttress roof and hidden headlights created one of the most distinctive profiles ever. Before it became famous as the General Lee, it was already legendary for its combination of luxury and performance. The R/T version with the 440 Magnum engine was the gentleman’s muscle car.
5. 1966 Pontiac GTO

The original muscle car, the GTO created the formula: big engine in a mid-size car. The stacked headlights and muscular stance made it instantly recognizable. That tri-power 389 engine could smoke the tires through all four gears – not that we ever did that, of course.
6. 1970 Chevelle SS 454

Oldsmobile’s muscle car combined luxury with performance. The W-30 package turned this gentleman’s express into a quarter-mile monster. Those distinctive red plastic inner fender wells became a signature performance touch.
9. 1969 Boss 429 Mustang

Built to homologate Ford’s massive 429 engine for NASCAR, this was the ultimate Mustang. Each one was hand-built by Kar Kraft, featuring a modified shock tower to accommodate the massive engine. The hood scoop alone was worth the price of admission.
10. 1970 Buick GSX

Buick’s entry in the muscle car wars was no slouch. With its 455 cubic inch engine producing massive torque, it was the sophisticated way to go fast. The Saturn Yellow paint with black stripes was impossible to miss.
11. 1971 Plymouth Road Runner

The cartoon-inspired muscle car that brought performance to the masses. With its beep-beep horn and stripped-down approach to speed, it was the working man’s muscle car. The Air Grabber hood was pure street theater.
