Movie plot holes seem to be a long-running tradition in Hollywood.
While some take you out of the movie, others are ignored to enjoy the bigger story. After all, there’d be no enjoying any Fast and the Furious film if we all focused on plot holes. With that said, some plot holes are hard to bounce back from. Here are some doozies.
The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
We all love a good Batman story, but The Dark Knight Rises (2012) left us confused. Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) returns as Batman to save Gotham from the menacing Bane (Tom Hardy). Despite being trapped in a prison well, Bruce manages to return to Gotham with no resources or explanation. How he manages this while Gotham is under siege remains a puzzle.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
The success of Terminator (1984) brought a sequel. Unfortunately, this one had a major plot hole. John (Edward Furlong) and Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), with the help of a friendly Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger), try to prevent the creation of Skynet. If Skynet wants John dead, why send a Terminator back to a time when he has a protective mother and another Terminator guarding him?
Ocean’s Eleven (2001)
Fresh out of prison, charismatic con man Danny Ocean (George Clooney) wastes no time in orchestrating his next heist. With a plan already in mind, he recruits his partner-in-crime Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt) to help him gather a group of criminals to rob a Las Vegas casino. The film never explains how they managed to get bags of fliers into the vault for the SWAT team to take out.
Transformers (2007)
Giant shape-shifting robots seek a powerful artifact on Earth in Transformers (2007). Sam Witwicky’s (Shia LaBeouf) great-grandfather found one of these robots in the Arctic many years ago when he travelled to Earth to find the Allspark. The Allspark is a source of power for the robots. The movie is a blockbuster hit, but it remains unclear why the powerful Megatron crash-landed in the Arctic to begin with.
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) is a cinematic legend. Still, there’s one big issue with the plot. Archaeologist Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) tries to beat Nazis in obtaining a religious artifact. If Indy hadn’t interfered, would the Nazis have opened the Ark and faced its wrath anyway?
Gravity (2013)
Two astronauts are stranded in space after their shuttle is destroyed. Despite being in zero gravity, a crucial scene depends on a “pulling” force that shouldn’t exist. Gravity (2013) features Sandra Bullock (Speed) and George Clooney (Up in the Air).
Back to the Future Part II (1989)
Back to the Future Part II (1989) revisited the time-traveling DeLorean from the original. In this film, something is missing. Marty (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd)Â travel to the future and back to a parallel 1985. If Biff (Tom Wilson) returns the DeLorean to the original 2015, how does the timeline remain unaffected for Doc and Marty to leave that 2015?
Avatar (2009)
Avatar (2009) was a huge success. Still, it left us wondering. In the film, a marine (Sam Worthington) goes undercover among the Na’vi. With all their advanced technology, why didn’t the humans just remotely control the avatars from Earth?
