Love him or hate him, Nic Cage is nothing less than a legendary Hollywood staple. The Oscar-winning actor’s career spans decades and more than 100 movies.

Some are good. Others are great. And then there’s the endless supply of memes the Internet can’t seem to get enough of. While promoting his newest movie Dream Scenario, Cage told The Guardian that turning into a viral sensation was not what he set out to do by becoming an actor:

I didn’t get into movies to become a meme. That was new. I made friends with it but it was an adjustment.

Even Nic Cage probably agrees that some of his flicks are over the top. Here are the actor’s craziest and most downright bizarre movies to date:

Vampire’s Kiss (1988)

While Vampire’s Kiss didn’t exactly win many critics over, this cult classic is over-the-top Nicolas Cage at its finest. If you’re looking for a film that will forever change your views of the alphabet, this is the perfect flick for you.

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans (2009)

In this gem of a crime thriller, Cage portrays a corrupt drug-addicted cop as he descends into complete madness and starts wondering about fish and their dreams. While Bad Lieutenant is as gritty as they come, the film is also wondrously weird and worth watching at least once.

Pig (2021)

Michael Sarnoski’s Pig is a poignant story about grief, heartbreaks, and isolation set in the wilderness. The film received near-universal critical acclaim, particularly for Nicolas Cage’s haunting performance. But ultimately, this is a film about a man searching for his long-lost beloved pig.

Left Behind (2014)

The critics panned this apocalyptic gem, which currently holds an impressively low IMDb score of 3.1/10. As far as Nic Cage movies go, Left Behind is as strange as it gets. Aside from the subpar performances and bizarre premise, it has some of the worst special effects you’ll ever see in a movie starring the A-lister.

Willy’s Wonderland (2021)

Before Five Nights at Freddy’s, there was Willy’s Wonderland. Well, Willy’s Wonderland is a B rip-off of the popular video game franchise, but no one reads the fine print. What makes this title interesting is how Nicolas Cage’s protagonist goes through the entire runtime without uttering a single word.

The Wicker Man (2006)

In this remake of a classic British folk horror film from the 70s, Gage stars as a detective who goes to an eerie closed-off community to investigate a young girl’s disappearance. Needless to say, things go from weird to ridiculous when the bee mask appears on screen.

Mandy (2018)

Mandy is an over-the-top delightfully violent revenge thriller about a man who wants to punish the cult responsible for his wife’s death. The film includes excessive blood baths, gore, and Cage’s character wielding his very own home-forged sword.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022)

In this movie, Nicolas Cage plays a character named Nicolas Cage. But that’s not all, the character is a famous award-winning actor. If this sounds a bit weird, well, that’s because it is. But this Nic Cage we’re talking about, so it shouldn’t be surprising he made a movie where he plays himself.

Face/Off (1997)

Face/Off is an Academy Award-winning thriller about a detective who undergoes plastic surgery to look like his criminal nemesis. This means Nicolas Cage and John Travolta spend the movie playing each other’s characters interchangeably.

Zandalee (1991)

Zandalee follows a tortured artist as he deals with rejection and bad reviews. It includes one particularly memorable meltdown scene where Nic Cage takes his clothes off, destroys his canvases, and covers himself in paint.
