1. Back to the Future (1985)

One of the most decade-defining films of its time is Back to the Future. It’s a movie that has everything. There’s action, romance, comedy, and a good dose of science fiction. The acting holds up to today’s standards and the soundtrack is a lot of fun, too.

It’s difficult to see how any remake could ever improve on the original.

2. The Fugitive (1993)

Filmmakers these days seem to think that great movies have to be long. The Fugitive proves otherwise. It’s a perfect thriller because it knows how to keep the tension building without any filler. Every scene adds to the plot with nothing feeling wasted.

The acting is also great and the script has some one-liners that you’ll carry with you after seeing the film.

3. Alien (1979)

Ridley Scott doesn’t receive nearly the credit he deserves for his work. Alien will always stand the test of time. Its use of physical effects keeps it looking fresh and real no matter how old the film is.

The story, itself, is also gripping and never gets old to watch. The film launched a successful franchise that is still going strong to this day.

4. The Princess Bride (1987)

The cast of The Princess Bride regularly states how perfect the film is and a remake just wouldn’t make sense. Fans are likely to agree. The film has the perfect cast that plays their roles perfectly. It’s a fun twist on fantasy tropes and stories with tongue-in-cheek humor throughout the whole thing.

When it comes to cozy fantasy, this movie is flawless at it.

5. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)

Sometimes there are movies that make you feel as though you’re coming home. For many people, that movie is The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. From the music to the acting to the landscapes, everything comes together to create a beautiful film.

Although the Lord of the Rings trilogy as a whole is a powerhouse of talent and story-telling, nothing quite beats the first movie of the trilogy.

6. Galaxy Quest (1999)

When the actors seem like they had a good time filming a movie, then it’s probably going to be a lot of fun. Such is the case with Galaxy Quest which is essentially a spoof of Star Trek (1966-1969).

While the SFX looks a bit rough these days, considering it wasn’t supposed to look great to begin with only adds to its charm. If you’re in the mood for a fun, flawless, sci-fi gem, then give Galaxy Quest a try.

7. No Country for Old Men (2007)

Not a single shot is wasted in No Country for Old Men. From the very start, you’re thrown into a film that keeps building the tension. From powerhouse acting to a great script, this is a movie that’s difficult to watch just once. Although its ending might leave you a little dumbstruck.

8. Se7en (1995)

There’s no doubt that the acting in Se7en makes it one of the greats. However, it’s the story and script that really make this movie flawless. It’s one of those rare scripts that’s so original and haunting that nothing can quite compare to it.

9. Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

When you’re in the mood for a good adventure film, one of the movies that scratch that itch is Raiders of the Lost Ark. From great acting, a fun plot, and catchy music, this movie is a fun experience from start to finish.

It also launched a franchise that’d span several decades.

10. The Prestige (2006)

Another film with an incredible script and acting is The Prestige. This is a movie that you can’t simply watch once after seeing its big reveal at the end. In fact, this is a movie you have to watch several times to discover all the hints and clues. When it comes to twist endings, The Prestige does it right.
