Few people doubt Jamie Lee Curtis’s ultimate Scream Queen status. Since her debut in 1978’s Halloween, the actress appeared in over 50 movies and almost as many television series.

Her latest frightening film, The Haunted Mansion, premiered in theaters recently. While the critical reception isn’t for the film isn’t the warmest, the Oscar winner’s performance is flawlessly hilarious.

While the actress’s credits span several genres, these horror movies deserve a spot on your spooky season watchlist.

John Carpenter’s original Halloween movie made Jamie Lee Curtis into a star and started a franchise that’s still going strong more than 40 years later. The scary film follows a deranged Mike Myers who, after escaping from a mental institution, heads back to his hometown to continue a murder spree that started with his own sister.

Halloween II (1981)

Considering how successful the first Halloween movie was, it’s no surprise a sequel soon followed. Jamie Lee Curtis reprised the role of Mike Myers survivor Laurie having to once again face the deranged killer.

Terror Train (1980)

Terror Train is a prime example of the classic 80s slasher. There’s a killer, a knife, blood, and, of course, a final girl. While the movie is mostly forgotten, it might be worth dusting it off for a nostalgic watch.

The Fog (1980)

Jamie Lee Curtis and John Carpenter reunited after the original Halloween to create this charmingly horrific cult classic. Hollywood tried remaking the movie in 2005, but it wasn’t anywhere near as good as the original.

Halloween (2018)

After Rob Zombie’s less-than-successful attempt to revive the franchise in 2007, this Halloween movie decided to bring back Jamie Lee Curtis and erase most of its history. The film is set 40 years after John Carpertenter’s first installment and in an alternate reality where none of the sequels ever happened.

Virus (1999)

Virus is a SciFi horror about a ship crew who find themselves attacked by aliens. While not the actress’s favorite movie role, it’s still entertaining.

Scream Queens (2015-2016)

While Scream Queens is a series and not a feature film, it’s still worth mentioning here. The series takes a tongue-in-cheek approach to the slasher genre, and Jamie Lee Curtis plays a tough-but-fair school dean.

Roadgames (1981)

This Australian thriller is probably among the actress’s lesser-known works, but it’s probably one the most cerebral pieces to come out of the 80s. The movie follows a truck driver and the hitchhiker he picked up trying to catch a serial killer along the deserted Australian backroads.

Halloween Kills (2021)

Despite underwhelming the critics, Halloweed Kills was successful at the box office. The movie is in the immediate aftermath of 2018’s Halloween and even introduces a lynch mod trying to find and turn the tables on Michael Myers.

Halloween Ends (2022)

This one is probably the most controversial movie the franchise produced. Angered fans even created an online petition asking for the movie to be re-shot. Yes, the petition was largely ignored.
