It feels like movies always get better as the decades progress. While there will always be timeless masterpieces from the early days of cinema, it seems like no other decade has more classics than the 90s.

Here are the 10 best movies from the 90s, available to watch on Netflix right now.

The Cable Guy

One of Jim Carrey’s most underrated films, The Cable Guy saw the iconic comedian dial his weirdness to 11, and add a surprising maniacal twist to his typically comedic performances. After cable repair man Chip tries to become friends with Steven, a client, Chip wreaks havoc in Steven’s life when his friendship is rejected.

Rush Hour

Rush Hour will always be one of Jackie Chan’s funniest western performances, helped by his flawless pairing with Chris Tucker. This buddy cop film sees a maverick Chinese policeman and an incompetent American cop teaming together to save the kidnapped 11-year-old daughter of a Chinese diplomat.

Heat

One of Brian De Palma’s best, alongside Scarface, HEAT saw the long-awaited big-screen pairing of Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino, and the result is perfect. Looking to pull off one last heist before retirement, professional thief McCauley finds himself under constant surveillance from a budding police detective attempting to thwart his final plans.

Starship Troopers

What was first perceived as a goofy science fiction comedy has quickly become a cult classic, with audiences slowly peeling away the facade to find a still hilarious indictment of America’s fetishization of the military. When alien bugs attempt to destroy Earth, Johnny Rico, a college graduate, joins the Mobile Infantry to serve his nation.

Donnie Brasco

The second Al Pacino film to make this list, Donnie Brasco was nominated for several major awards in 1997, including Best Adapted Screenplay at the following Oscars. When an undercover FBI agent infiltrates one of the five major New York crime families, his morals and dedication are tested when he must rise through the ranks to bring them down for good.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day

Still the best film in the franchise by a country mile, Terminator 2: Judgement Day marks the height of Arnold, Linda Hamilton, and James Cameron’s careers. When a young John Connor is attacked by T-1000, Skynet’s newest killing machine, Terminator joins the family he once tried to kill to save John and the human race.

Léon: The Professional

One of my personal favorites, Léon: The Professional is one of the best and most emotional hitman films ever made. After Mathilda’s family is murdered, she is secretly taken in by her neighbor Léon, a professional assassin. Raising her the only way he knows how, Léon teaches her his trade while Mathilda secretly hides her goal of revenge.

Reservoir Dogs

Tarantino‘s first, and arguably his best, Reservoir Dogs is the heist film without a heist, that brought together an incredible cast, a killer soundtrack, and mercilessly questioned the morals of tipping staff at restaurants. After a diamond heist goes wrong and one member of the crew is shot, a gang of criminals must uncover the rat in their group before it’s too late.

Titanic

It’s very easy for people to hate Titanic, but it can’t be argued that it is a well-crafted film with incredible performances and an emotional ending. After gambling his way on board the titular vessel’s maiden voyage, Jack finds himself catching the attention of Rose, one of the wealthiest patrons on board the doomed ship.

A League of Their Own

With an incredible cast that includes Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Lori Petty, Rosie O’Donnell, and Madonna, A League of Their Own is arguably the best baseball film ever made. Drafted into the first women’s only baseball league, Jimmy, an alcoholic former star, struggles with his new job of managing the team as they try to win matches.
