The marketing department sometimes has a lot of fun developing the poster for a movie. They’ll put in secret clues or Easter Eggs for eagle-eye fans to find.
Did you spot these hidden or creepy details?
The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
The poster for The Silence of the Lambs is already a bit creepy. However, if you take a closer look at the Death’s Head Moth, you’ll notice something odd about its head.
It’s actually comprised of naked women.
Spider-Man (2002)
Most of the filming for Spider-Man was in 2001. That’s why the movie poster for the film depicted Spider-Man swinging by the Twin Towers.
After 9/11, those posters were replaced with the posters we know and love today.
Cloverfield (2008)
One of the biggest mysteries of Cloverfield was the monster. No one knew what it looked like going into the movie. However, some sleuths realized that the movie poster actually hinted at its shape.
If you take two parts of the poster and put them together, the image of the monster can clearly be seen standing over the city.
Under the Silver Lake (2018)
A classic movie poster trick is putting hidden shapes and objects in posters. Under the Silver Lake already packs a lot of mysteries in the film. Yet, its poster hints at some of those mysteries. Just look at the bubbles. Some of them form clues.
Us (2019)
At first glance, you might not notice the hidden detail in the Us poster featuring a character holding a pair of scissors. However, a closer inspection reveals that the handles for the scissors are the same shape as two heads back-to-back.
This matches the poster where two individuals have their heads back-to-back. It also foreshadows a certain part of the movie.
Orphan (2009)
If you find the girl in the poster for Orphan unsettling, then there’s a reason behind it. The designer ended up copying one side of the actress’s face and flipping it to make up the other side of her face. The result was a perfectly symmetrical face.
Perfect symmetry is unnatural, which makes the character feel unnatural, too.
Jaws (1975)
Perhaps one of the most iconic moments in Jaws is right at the beginning. A swimmer takes to the ocean for a bit of skinny dipping and ends up as a shark’s meal. That moment became the movie’s poster.
Originally, the woman swimming on the surface was naked. Since then, the poster has changed to blur her body.
Halloween (1978)
Slasher, horror, and thriller films always like to put creepy or hidden images into their posters. Halloween was no exception. If you look carefully at Michael’s hand holding the knife, you can just make out Michael’s face. Spooky indeed.
Split (2016) and Unbreakable (2000)
M. Night Shyamalan knows how to create a universe. Split and Unbreakable were made years apart. However, if you were to align both movie posters together, you’d find that the cracks match up perfectly.
Talk about a long-term marketing plan.
Parasite (2019)
It’s as if the movie manifested its future at the Academy Awards. The poster for Parasite includes quite a few references to scenes within the film. However, you’ll also notice tucked under the table a hidden Oscar.
Foreshadowing, perhaps?
