Short Haircut Ideas for Growing Out

So, you feel like you need a change and want to try a short haircut.

I totally support you, but before you go to the hairdresser, I must stress that you need to be clear on some very basic things: you need to know your hair type and make sure the cut you choose works with it.

Because your hair's texture will really stand out with a short haircut, the way to make it work with it, rather than fighting it, is to know how to take care of it.

1) Textured French Bob

This seems to be the ideal cut if you want to try a classic bob that works well with wavy hair.

The texture at the ends, the irregular shape, and the soft inner layers embrace the natural waves of this hair type, rather than fighting them.

2) Softly Layered Pixie Cut

This seems to be a haircut that would work best with finer or straighter hair; it might work for wavy hair, but only if it isn't too thick.

With this cut, it's best to let the hairdresser handle the trimming, because if you don't know how to do it yourself, you're very likely to mess it up. I speak from experience.

3) Classic Chin-Length Bob

This classic bob, unlike the textured French one, seems to rely more on subtle layers, a clean shape, and a more polished structure, so it would definitely work better with straighter hair.

This cut would conflict with wavy hair, unless it were straightened regularly.

The long top layers and side-swept bangs might work really well with wavy hair, since the texture would be concentrated there. I haven't personally tried this type of haircut, since I don't think it would suit me.

This isn't a cut I'd personally try, since it's not my style.

I can appreciate that the short layers would work for someone who doesn't want bangs touching their face.

Plus, it could gradually be transformed into a bob or a bixie if the back is cut short enough.

This is the exact haircut that Rebecca Sugar (creator of the series Steven Universe) wore at one point, and it looked great on her.

This is a haircut I might try someday, but I'm not sure if it would look as good on wavy hair as it does on curly hair; it would be worth a try.

This haircut would definitely look better on straight or fine hair, given its long front layers.
